The first game of the tournament is very important. We should not underestimate the opponent and go to great length to get three points.

Agree, nothing better than a good start. A loss here would ensure there's pressure on us for the games with Nice and this schedule is very favourable if we put points on the board early as we could ensure progression in early November. If we slip up here and/or at home to Zulte Waregem, November and December becomes more difficult.

I do think we need to rest players given we have to travel to Arnhem and then Genoa, but we can't afford to go too extreme in my opinion.

We should be able to win even with considerable turnover, however Vitesse will certainly not be a walk in the park.

Strakosha;
Bastos, De Vrij, Luiz Felipe;
Masuric, Parolo, Di Gennaro, Lukaku;
Sergej, Murgia;
Caicedo

Rest: Radu, Basta, Leiva, Lulic, Luis Alberto, Immobile

              Strakosha
          Bastos Devrij Luiz
Marusic Parolo Luis Sergej Lulic
          Caicedo Immobile

If we score 1 goal first, then second half we can change:
Palombi -> Immobile
Lukaku -> Lulic
Murgia -> Sergej

Strakosha; Bastos, de Vrij, Luiz Felipe; Marusic, Parolo, Di Gennaro, Murgia, Lukaku; Milinkovic, Caicedo.

This is perfect!
If we are up by two and everything looks good, i would sub Sergej and put in either Nani, Pedro Neto, Palombi, Crecco or Patric  :supsmile:

All the others need matchtempo, maybe sub de Vrij but that's always a risky sub.

Closer we get to the game, the more talk there is of a complete rotation in the media.

Patric has been playing centre-back in training recently - that might indicate just how many players will be rested.

I hope so.  Not that it's the best thing for football are results, not at all but in the long run it's necessary so better to start now and give the rest the needed gametime.  We have the roster now to rotate and compete on 3 fronts.  The backups will have to do it for us in the EL groupstages, especially for Vitesse and Waregem.  Against Nice i wouldn't go with to many changes.

If we don' rotate we won't keep it up in the Serie A to aim high, and the most important things is to qualify for Europe each year.  It's even more important then try to win it or play the final rounds.

Vitesse last lineup against Excelsior

                   Pasveer
Dabo VanDerWe Mlazga Buttner
          Bruns Serero Foor
      Linssen Matavz Castalgnos

They were using 433.
I think we should keep the 352 for this match and I feel we still need Sergej in this match to boss the midfield.
