Primavera 2 (2018-19)
« on: September 21, 2018, 03:04:17 PM »

As you probably all know by now, Lazio were relegated from the top Primavera division last season and now play lesser-calibre opponents in Primavera2.

Despite the relegation, Lazio retained the services of Valter Bonacina who came in for Andrea Bonatti at the tail end of last season.

The Lazio Primavera squad is now very young and if the first game against Foggia is anything to go by, older foreign players are being phased out in favour of very young Italians.

Many of the current crop are only 16, which is obviously a far cry from Inzaghi's Lazio where almost everyone was 19 years of age.

Lazio won the opener against Foggia 1-0. On that evidence, promotion won't be an easy feat this season.

Luan is playing very well last weeks. Talented player. Maybe our future star?

You mean Zaniolo I guess. Inter gifted him to 1927 as part of the Naingolan deal, so it's not like he is 1927 product. They just fleeced Inter. Bad enough to blow a huge fee on a 30y old player who relies on his dynamics, but also gifting 1927 what looks like a legit playmaker in the limited time he's a regular.

I don't know if we have a legit young talent somewhere in Primavera. Probably not for next season. Our current squad isn't built to carry a young talent at the moment. All attacking and midfield positions are taken by proven players or star players. Defense has been shaky under Inzaghi, and while it looked improved a bit against strong opponents in January, it's clearly not the time to try young players. Because of injuries we have a young CB on the bench tonight, 19y old Kalaj who is tall but quite lean. Looks like a squad filler to me. The real talent is Armini, 17y, who is Italy's U18 captain. The question is, how soon can you trust a defender and can we keep him if he turns out a good one.

The SMS comparison seems inevitable with Zaniolo and has been brought up by some media before. I can see similarities. Remember though that SMS is quite a proven player already and has 4 years on Zaniolo, so not a fair comparison.
